What are the eligibility requirements for the 1-year Early Completion Option (ECO) program?
- For all candidates, the initial eligibility requirements (i.e. eligibility to apply to the ECO pathway) are:
- A Valid CA Preliminary Credential
- Current employment as the teacher of record in your authorized credential area and teaching a minimum of 60%
- Having taught as a classroom teacher of record with a CA intern or preliminary teaching credential for a minimum of 2 years prior to Induction year (Emergency Permits and Substitute Credentials do not qualify) OR having taught as a classroom teacher of record in a school environment that does not require a credential (a regionally accredited private or an international school) for a minimum of 3 years. Candidates are required to provide verification of employment through the Director of Personnel/Human Resources for each previous teaching position held that includes: dates, school/district with contact information, and teaching assignments, ie. grades/subjects taught.
- For non-Reach Intern candidates or Reach ECO Intern candidates who meet above criteria, the ECO application requirements** are:
- Recent documentation from a site administrator that details the candidate’s proficiency levels on the CSTP, including at least one of the following: Signed and dated copy of candidate’s most recent exemplary employment performance evaluation or a Letter of recommendation, signed and dated.
- A teaching practice portfolio that demonstrates proficiency in the CSTPs and PTARA cycle (Plan, Teach, Assess/Analyze, Reflect, Apply). Reach will evaluate the portfolio for completeness and proficiency using a rubric* and share evaluation with the candidate. The portfolio includes:
- A standards-based lesson plan (template not provided).
- A recorded lesson video of the teacher teaching the lesson plan (continuous and unedited, minimum of 30 minutes), with context and highlights of lesson.
- At least 3 graded students work samples at different levels and an analysis of the student work.
- A reflection and next steps based on the lesson and student work analysis.
- A signed (by the candidate and a site administrator) ECO Application Candidate Acknowledgement and Agreement form.
*Candidates need to receive a passing score on the rubric and submit a complete application to be admitted into the ECO pathway.
**While ECO applicants are working on their ECO applications or waiting for their score, they should follow the ECO calendar and work on the ECO ILP. The ECO and Y1 ILP are identical. If candidates are not admitted into the ECO pathway, their ECO ILP will count as their Year 1 ILP.
- For Reach 2-year Intern candidates, the ECO application requirements are:
- A positive Reach Intern faculty and Candidate Success Advisor recommendation form.
- A signed (by the candidate and a site administrator) ECO Application Candidate Acknowledgement and Agreement.
- All candidates are “provisionally” admitted into the ECO pathway, until they successfully complete the Induction year at the conclusion of the Spring semester. If candidates do not meet deliverable deadlines or consistently submit incomplete deliverables, they will be removed from the ECO pathway and enrolled in the traditional 2-year pathway.
