What credentials does the Intern Teacher Credential Program offered through Alternatives in Action offer?
Diverse Credential Options: Earn Your Preliminary Teaching Credential in Multiple or Single Subject Areas
The Intern Program offered through Alternatives in Action offers the following teaching credentials:
- Multiple Subject
- Single Subject: Art, Business, English, Health Science, Foundational-Level Mathematics, Mathematics, Music, Physical Education, Science (Biological Science, Chemistry, Foundational-Level Science, and Physics), Social Science, World Languages (Languages other than English).
At this time, we do not offer the following credentials:
- Special Education (Education Specialist Instruction)
- World Languages: English Language Development (ELD)
Special Notes:
- If you are seeking a World Language credential, specific to Latin, there is not a CSET exam offered by the CTC to meet SMCR. The only way to meet SMCR is by an exam specific to what is offered by WEST instead. More information can also be found here on this on the CTC website.
- If you are seeking a World Language credential, specific to Hebrew, Italian, and Portuguese:
- In addition to meeting SMCR by examination only, credential seekers in these areas must also take and pass a language assessment.
- Per the CTC, “To verify subject-matter competence in the single subject world language content areas indicated with an asterisk (*) in Table 1, you must pass the applicable portion of the CSET subject-matter examination and complete a language assessment administered by a Commission-approved assessor agency.
- In addition to meeting SMCR by examination only, credential seekers in these areas must also take and pass a language assessment.
