What is the District Intern Credential? How do I obtain one?

Intern Credential: A Two-Year Temporary License for Aspiring Teachers

An Intern Credential is a temporary license issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) that is valid for 2 years. The intern credential allows the individual to be employed by a school district or county office of education as the teacher of record. During this time, intern teachers are enrolled in an intern credential program to obtain their preliminary teaching credential.

The following steps are required to obtain the Intern Credential:

Step 1: Apply to the Reach Intern Program and submit all of the admissions requirements (including the Subject Matter Competency).

Step 2: Receive an acceptance letter, complete the enrollment paperwork, and enroll in the Reach Intern Program. Candidates are required to be actively enrolled in an Intern Program to receive the Intern Credential.

Step 3: Successfully complete the Summer Preservice (Reach 210) course with a passing grade.

Once you have completed the three steps, then Reach’s Candidate Services department submits your application for your Intern Credential to the CTC.
