The Prior Field Experience Recommendation Form is a required part of the Intern Teacher Credential Application and is submitted as an electronic form (e-form) within the application itself.
As mandated by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC), all applicants must verify at least 45 hours of prior field experience completed within the past five years. This experience must involve direct interaction with students or youth in educational settings and should offer meaningful exposure to classroom environments, diverse learners, and the responsibilities of a teacher. Qualifying experiences may include:
- Volunteering
- Substitute teaching
- General education classroom
- Work in school-linked programs
- Experience in preschools, special education, higher education, religious education, private schools, or international settings may also qualify
The form must be completed and signed by a reference who can verify your field experience and speak to your strengths working in the setting described above. Appropriate references typically include:
- School principal
- School administrator
- Supervisor from the educational setting
