Which majors meet the subject matter competency for a credential area?
The chart below summarizes the list of degree majors for each teaching credential.
Reference the table to see if your college major will satisfy the Subject Matter Competency Requirement (SMCR). You must have earned a bachelor’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution that includes the name of the subject area, except for Multiple Subjects. Please email grad@reach.edu with questions regarding meeting subject matter by degree major.

*Foundational Level General Science: Additionally, any degree major that includes the name of the subject area of the single subject credential and any degree major offered by a college or university science department.
*Social Science: History, Political Science, or any other degree within Social Sciences will NOT suffice as an approved degree. Your major must be in Social Science.
*World Language: Your major needs to exactly match the content of the credential you are pursuing.
