Can I return to complete the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) if I’m an Intern Credential Program alumnus?

Earn a Master's While You Teach: Alumni

If you're an Intern Credential Program alumnus wondering whether you can return to complete the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT), the answer depends on when you started the program.

For those who started in the 2022-2023 school year or later:
Yes, you are eligible to return to complete the MAT. Starting in the 2022-2023 school year, courses such as 221/231 and others began to carry master’s level credits and were officially accredited by WASC (the Western Association of Schools and Colleges). This change opened the door for alumni of these more recent cohorts to continue their education and pursue the MAT. If you are interested please contact intern@reach.edu.

For those who started before the 2022-2023 school year:
Unfortunately, if you were part of the program before the 2022-2023 academic year, you are not eligible to return for the MAT. The coursework from earlier years does not carry the same accreditation as the newer courses, so it does not count toward the master's degree.

Why the Change?
This shift in accreditation was a part of our ongoing commitment to offering high-quality educational opportunities. By making the courses eligible for master's credits and gaining WASC accreditation, we have been able to provide a clearer pathway for individuals who started the program in the 2022-2023 school year and beyond to complete their MAT.

*Please note that MAT is only available to candidates enrolled in the traditional two-year pathway
